Ruggel lies in the northernmost part of Liechtenstein and as such, it is the most northern of all Liechtenstein’s communities and municipalities. According to the last national census in 2007, the small community has a population of just 1,923 inhabitants, which although small is quite typical for Liechtenstein. Schellenberg and Mauren are about a mile and two miles away to the south respectively.

Although small, with little landmass, natural resources or population, Liechtenstein remains economically sound with a range of industries supporting it and solid infrastructure and public services. Interestingly, it does not have its own army.
